Interdisciplinary approach

1) Implementing novel, broadly applicable, scalable, and highly effective metabolic imaging methodologies to improve imaging capabilities, which are expected to give better and faster insight into treatment responses, and by  

2) Securing the availability of lutetium-177 in the EU via improving its manufacturing process and by developing sustainable production methods to aid in meeting the need for radioisotope-based therapies in the EU.  

Wide range of expertise 

To that end, the ILLUMINATE consortium covers a wide range of expertise - from fundamental technology development to final optimisation and upscaling, to clinical validation and healthcare integration. The consortium brings together pioneers of the metabolic-MRI technology, both in an academic and industrial setting, and provides expertise in both development of imaging technology and production of radionuclide medicine.  

To realize patient-centred innovation in the metabolic-MRI field and maximize the benefits for cancer patients, ILLUMINATE will link technology development to expertise in clinical validation. ILLUMINATE will ensure ample interactions between patients, physicians and other healthcare associates. 

To ensure wide adoption of project results and realize impact in the longer term, all partners will work closely with patients and members of the public, and collaborate in regulatory and educational activities on healthcare integration. In this way, the ILLUMINATE consortium will cover the full theranostics value chain.
